8th National Self-Advocacy Conference

Southern Collaborative - Region 6 & Region 9 of SABE

We Had A Dream:  Now We Have The Power! - - Atlanta, Georgia

Thursday-Sunday - - May 25-28, 2006 - - www.SABE2006.org

People First of New Hampshire had 47 people from all over the state attend the last National Self-Advocacy Conference in California two years ago.  We hope to have just as many (more!) attend the conference in Georgia.

Many self-advocates have received the conference packet from People First of NH if they are on our mailing list.  I wanted to share the details with you, too.  You can find information and registration forms by following this link to www.SABE2006.org

Along with the packets, we sent this memo.  It will give you additional details when planning.

Re:  National Self-Advocacy Conference 2006

Date:  January 25, 2006

Here, in this packet, please find all of the details related to the upcoming national conference.

We discussed how to organize for this at our last board/membership meeting.  This is what everyone thought would work best based on prior years:

  • Each local chapter of People First would make their own plane and travel arrangements.  If you need assistance, please call me.

  • Each person send in their registration to People First of NH with the money made out to PEOPLE FIRST OF GEORGIA and in the memo section of the check, put “National Conference”.    This means you are sending us pages 4 and 15 of the packet.  If you need an accessible room, complete pages 6 and 7, also.   Send the registration pages and payment to our NH office by April 5 so that we can send it by April 15th which is the deadline. (Note:  It makes it very helpful to the hosting state - Georgia - if all the registrations from NH are mailed together.  It also helps the hosting state have minimal contacts to make should there be questions once they receive the registrations.)

 Also….

  • If you want to go on the Civil Rights Tour, complete and send along page 10 with your packet to us.

  • If you want to share in the art/talent, send in page 11 with your packet to us.

  • People First of NH has booked a block of 20 rooms.  Once people know that they are attending, they should send along their names so that the room can be reserved for him/her. Remember to send us pages 6 and 7 if you need an accessible room.  The sooner you get this information to me, the better.  If you want to make your own hotel arrangements, please let me know.  You may call or email me with names/numbers.

  • Page 3 of the packet outlines all of the deadlines.  If you want to present on behalf of People First of NH with other members, please let me know by February 15.

  • As always, we will have a table at the Self-Advocacy Faire and encourage everyone to participate in the display.  If you have ideas for this, we’d love to hear them.

  •  Most all of the details are in the packet, but if you need assistance, please let me know.
